Arnett Cobb was born in Houston in Texas and was playing the piano, trumpet and violin as a teenager before moving permanently to the tenor saxophone, his favorite instrument. His first serious steps in the music gave the Texan trumpeter Chester Boone, between 1934 and 1936, a job he combines with his studies at the institute. Immediately afterwards he worked with trumpeter and bandleader, Milt Larkin, between 1936 and 1942 which earned him to develop a consistent style to their music and learn the saxophone in the band – Illinois Jacquet and Eddie Vinson, including — lifestyle and focus needed for a road musician.
