Slim Gaillard is one of those musicians so many forgotten by history and belonged to that select group of prophets of rhythm and blues – as Bab Gonzales or Louis Jordan – who anticipated the emergence of musicians such as Screamin ‘Jay Hawkins. Its golden age was starring in the first years of the thirties when he formed a duo with his brother on bass, Slam Stewart, in a humorous musical training recalled that even the group of the Marx Brothers. When he finishes his military service signed a contract with the club Billy Berg’s, Hollywood Boulevard club since 1945 and began recording frequently with prominent jazz musicians such as pianist or drummer Dodo Marmaros, Zutty Zingletton. It is well known even sporadic and casual meeting between the pair of bebop, Parker-Gillespie and our protagonist in a recording the following year.

In the fifties, Slim Gaillard, was part of the circuit organized by promoter Norman Granz, who under the name “Jazz at the Philharmonic”, dealt with American jazz spread throughout the world. That gave him the opportunity to reach Europe, particularly the UK where he first arrived in 1958. He returned to London, to settle permanently in 1983. The film also crossed in his life and shot a cult film in 1986 entitled “Absolute Beginners” for the BBC and a special work entitled “The World of Slim Gaillard in 1989. In 1991, cancer ended his life in the capital London.
