The dance of salsa is danced to Salsa music special, arising from African-American, American, but has also developed European elements. Many characters are the French dance of the late 17th Century, the so-called Contra dance, borrowed. In the starting position, the partners are opposite here. By the French and Spanish colonization of these dances came to the Caribbean, where they have been adapted and developed further. Of Hispaniola arrived in the dances of Cuba to the United States, from where they splashed in the early 80s back to Europe. Salsa is different from classical dances especially the fact that no single basic step is defined. Most often the basic step on 1 with forward and backward movement can be observed. This salsa is danced in 4/4-time. Since the basic steps common to two bars, while the dancers are not four but eight. With the first beat of the bar of the basic step starts forward, a step that follows the square, and another to close it. On the second and fourth beat is a pause. The emphasis is on the fourth beat. Thus, delays caused by tempo changes and extensions that make the dance is unique and unmistakable.
