Steve Gadd

stevegadd Steve Gadd learned the rudiments of music with his uncle, drummer in a marching band, and debuted as a dancer after tip-tap, an experience that turned out to be very influential for subsequent percussive style. In 1957 he acquired his first drum kit and studio with Bill and Stanley Street after several skirmishes with local groups to Rhythm and Blues and Rock & Roll. He studied music at Manhattan School of Music in Rochester where he played with Chuck Mangione. Continued improvement with John Beck, timpani of "Eastman Rochester Symphony" beginning a brilliant career as a drummer that made him the most requested sideman in the recordings made in the

area of New York.

Then came three years in the Army where he polished his skills in big band and basic knowledge before finally entering into the music scene in New York in 1971. He quickly reached a very good reputation and incessantly followed his visit to the recording studio. His great talent was to bring musicality and soul with a strong Groove in any style and his versatility was widely recognized. In those seventies, he recorded with Joe Farrell, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, George Benson, Stanley Clarke, Al Di Meola, Carla Bley and oyros great jazz musicians. Some of his most important recordings were: "The Leprechaun" with pianist Chick Corea, "Aja" by Steely Dan, and "Fifty Ways To Leave Your Lover" by Paul Simon.

After a time where there were few studio recordings, Steve Gadd returned to Rochester and now, their activities are more directed to the performance of tours and concerts where they call it. One of the most celebrated was his participation in world tours with Eric Clapton and Paul Simon and James Taylor. Of great technical skills, Steve Gadd is one of the first musicians who began their foray into the so-called jazz-rock.
