ERIC ALEXANDER

ericalexanderOwner of a warm tone, very well polished and artistically gifted with a melodic imagination in addition to a robust extraordinary harmony, the tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander faces a magnificent projection as a jazz musician. In his short but magnificent career record label has signed five excellent albums as a leader and is holding the potential to become one of the greatest contemporary jazz musicians. Eric Alexander, began playing the piano at age six, nine and played the clarinet since the age of twelve, also mastered the alto sax. When he decided in the business of jazz tenor sax as he took the final instrument after a year's stay at the American University of Indiana. Later,

at the University of New Jersey, continued his studies under the tutelage of the master, Joe Lovano and other professors. There he heard again and again to the great tenor saxes of hardbop, including: Sonny Rollins, Sonny Stitt, Jackie McLean or Joe Henderson. But it was the sound and style of Charlie Parker which strongly influence the playing of Eric Alexander. During the 90s, after putting second (behind Joshua Redman) in the international jazz contest "Thelonious Monk" in the category of saxophonist, Alexander was launched and strongly direct his career as a jazz musician. In 1991 he played with Charles Earland, and recorded his first album, "New York Calling" as a leader in 1992 in the Delmark label. In this prestigious label recorded some discs but still very prominent in the quartet recorded in 1988 with George Mraz, John Hicks, and Idris Muhammad. Today, after continuing his successful recording career, and Eric Alexander is a musician who attracts the attention wherever serving and has achieved recognition as a distinct voice among contemporary jazz musicians.
