 Jazz, in it’s most vague definition, is music that is syncopated and contains improvisation. Syncopation means that that notes that should be played evenly are not. If you’ve ever heard bands like the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies or the Brian Setzer Orchestra, you’ve heard syncopation. Improvisation, or soloing, means making up and playing a new melody on the spur of the moment. The person improvising is called the soloist. Sounds of jazz, bossa nova, soul, rock and flamenco form the reef VII edition of the music, festivals he wants to ensure to Las Palmas as a meeting and exchange of ideas about different musical styles.

The performances of Hank Jones, Toquinho and Maria Creuza, Sarah Jane Morris, Steve Hackett (ex Genesis guitarist) and Argentina make up the poster of this new edition, to be held from 12 to 20 June at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, as reported organization in a statement.

As in previous years, in addition to the concerts also two panel discussions will take place on 18 and 19 June at 19.30, in which music will speak on contemporary issues. Are entitled: The 70 and the gateway to the “do it yourself” and Spain and the revolution of 70, respectively. The jazz composer George Russell, whose theory was directly influenced and contemporary classics like Miles Davis and John Coltrane, has died. His employer says Russell, who studied at the New England Conservatory, died the 27th of last month from complications of his illness.

George Russell had been suffering with advanced Alzheimer’s disease. Russell was born in Cincinnati in 1923 and joined the University Willberforce. He played in the band of Benny Parker and later wrote “Cubano Be / Cubano Bop” for Dizzy Gillespie’s orchestra.  Read the rest of this entry »

Madeleine Peyroux 36 years seems to be following in the footsteps of contemporary jazz artists like Diana Krall. She began singing with only 15 years old, at which time he discovered the bohemian artists of the city of Paris. She was a member of The Riverboat Shufflers vocals. At 16 years old became part of The Lost Wandering Blues group with which he began touring international tours throughout Europe. Both artists have broken a record for longevity in American tops. “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz and “I Gotta Feeling” by Black Eyed Peas are the songs in this cause.

The American singer, Jason Mraz, who had recently performed at the Festival Mares Vivas, has now been 70 weeks at the top of the 100 most popular songs with “I’m Yours”. The song was actually a demo that was leaked onto the Internet brought great benefits to the artist.
